Hormone Absorption & Results Timeline

Hormone Absorption & Results Timeline

Allow time for the results to take effect. The hormones must enter the blood and circulate to tissues and organs throughout the body, where they bind with receptors and alleviate some of the discomfort associated with depleting hormone levels.

How long it takes for you to notice results after hormone replacement therapy is determined by the following:

  • Route of administration
  • Dosage
  • Symptoms being treated
  • How you respond to the treatment

Understanding the Timeline

To give you an idea, women may experience some relief in the first two to four weeks from estrogen and progesterone pills, creams, rings, pellets, or patches. Full effects, which include improved sleep and skin elasticity, usually take three to six months. Testosterone creams, patches, pellets, and topicals tend to take the same length of time to work.

Injections work more rapidly, usually within the first one to two weeks for both women and men. Better energy and sleep usually start in the first one to three months. By three to six months, hormone levels stabilize, and you’re not only relieving unpleasant symptoms; you’re also improving skin elasticity and bone health.

Signs & Symptoms

Is it perimenopause? Or is it something else? Could your testosterone be dropping more rapidly than you thought? If you’re unsure if what you’re feeling could be hormone-related, understanding potential signs could help you decide if a visit to Hydrology could be in order.

Symptoms for women

For women, one of the earliest symptoms, one that usually occurs during perimenopause, is shorter, longer, heavier, or lighter periods due to fluctuating progesterone and estrogen. Sometimes, menstruation will become irregular or less frequent.

Women may experience night sweats, which are intense hot flashes that happen at night. They often disrupt sleep. Vaginal dryness may also occur, as vaginal walls thin.

As a woman, you could also suffer from urinary incontinence, which may cause an increase in urgency and frequency in urination. She might also have difficulty regulating bladder control.

Although results vary from person to person, many patients have fewer or less intense symptoms. They feel like themselves once again, like the person they used to be before a hormone decrease took over. Their confidence returns, and they start to enjoy their sex life once again with more passion.

Fatigue may decrease, and sleep may become easier. Men might feel more inclined to get up, move, and do more, like when they were producing higher amounts of testosterone naturally. Through hormone replacement therapy, a person will have fewer severe or fewer night sweats and hot flashes. Their mood may become more stable.

At Hydrology, serving Coral Gables and Miami, FL, we use science-backed treatments to help people balance hormones, feel a renewed sense of self, and enhance their mental well-being. FAQs about Hormone Replacement Therapy

We’ll assess your symptoms and evaluate your hormone levels to determine if your hormones have begun to decline or are already low. This qualifies you for therapy. Generally, this is before or during menopause or andropause.

If you’re suffering from symptoms like hot flashes, night sweats, sexual dysfunction, decreased muscle mass, increased weight, or vaginal dryness, you may benefit from HRT.

Generally, we don’t recommend HRT after the age of 60. At that point, the benefits don’t usually outweigh the risks.

There isn’t a right or wrong answer to this. Some people benefit from HRT because they have moderate to severe symptoms that are interfering with their quality of life.
That’s not always the case, though, and some women go through menopause with minimal symptoms. This doesn’t consider that some women are more likely to experience the serious risks from HRT.

The first sign that HRT is working is when you experience less severe or less frequent symptoms than before treatment.
