Menopause Treatment

in MIAMI, FL

Your body produces estrogen and progesterone to prepare you for the miracle of pregnancy and birth eventually. Additionally, these hormones play a crucial role in regulating your metabolism, mood stability, energy levels, and other bodily functions. As these hormones decrease because of perimenopause and menopause, you end up feeling less like yourself. In fact, that’s sometimes the first comment we hear from a client, I just don’t feel right. I feel “off,” not like myself.

What you’re feeling is a normal part of life, but you don’t have to settle for those feelings being part of your today and tomorrow. At Hydrology, serving Coral Gables, the rest of the Miami metropolitan area, and the neighboring communities, Dr. A. Zuriarrain and the entire staff are ready to provide you with support during this time, reducing your symptoms and helping you return to the person you knew and loved, you know, the one before a hormonal imbalance took aim.

How Menopause Treatment Works

Though menopause isn’t necessarily a burden for every woman, the symptoms that come with it may be challenging, causing her to feel “off” and uncomfortable in her own skin. Menopause treatment, which consists of hormone replacement therapy, is a treatment to raise low levels to create a harmonious balance that assists with you feeling normal mentally and less physically depleted.

The process involves multiple steps that help us create a treatment plan to effectively manage your decreasing hormone levels and achieve optimal results regarding symptom reduction.

01.

Step One

Step One

Step one, which happens before menopause treatment, is when we get to know you better. We’d also like to know more about your goals during this appointment. Are you at the stage where you want to prevent unpleasant symptoms, or has that stage already passed?

If you’re already in perimenopause or menopause, we’ll want to hear about when your symptoms arose, how often they’ve occurred, their severity, and any other useful information to determine the extent to which menopause is impacting your life.

02.

Step Two

Step Two

Once – and if – we feel you could reap the rewards of menopause treatment, you’ll undergo testing for our practitioner to get the full scope of your hormone depletion. Our practitioner will assess your progesterone and estrogen levels, which need to be balanced and maintained at specific levels for you to feel normal. Even small changes can have a major impact.

03.

Step Three

Step Three

After establishing your needs and baseline hormone levels, our practitioner can precisely craft a treatment plan to ease your symptoms so you’re leading the life you want well into and past menopause.

04.

Step Four

Step Four

You’ll then receive your menopause treatment. That could mean you staying in our office to receive it, or us sending it home with you for you to pick up, based on the instructions we provide.

Let’s say you’re receiving injectable hormone replacement therapy. Our practitioner will administer either one or two injections. If only one, you may also receive a treatment to take home, which will contain progesterone.

If you opt for menopause hormone therapy using pellets, our practitioner will implant them in one of your buttocks or hips after creating a small incision. The area will need to be stitched afterward. The rice grain-sized pellets will remain in place and gradually break down, releasing over time to provide symptom relief over the course of three to four months.

05.

Step Five

Step Five

A more stable mood, fewer or less intense hot flashes, improved metabolism, better sleep, and other benefits are on the horizon. The time it takes to see results depends on the route of administration, dosage, your response, and the symptoms being treated.

You’ll start experiencing results once the hormones enter the blood and distribute to the organs and tissues throughout the body, binding with the hormone receptors there.

Generally, it takes one to two weeks to experience any effects with injectables, with the bulk of the relief occurring between three and six months after treatment. On the other hand, if you’re using pellets, rings, creams, pills, or patches, the initial effects typically take around two to four weeks, with the full impact lasting three to six months.

06.

Step Six

Step Six

Our practitioner will carefully monitor your journey through menopause treatment with Hydrology. We want to ensure you achieve results you’re satisfied with. Therefore, you’ll have follow-up visits after you begin treatment. During these appointments, our practitioner will assess the effectiveness of the treatment by asking questions and evaluating your hormone levels through blood testing.

If you’re not completely satisfied, our practitioner may adjust the treatment, which may involve modifying the dosage or route. You’ll return for another visit to see if the changes worked.

Signs & Symptoms

Are you questioning if you’re in perimenopause or menopause? While the only way we can tell is through an evaluation of your hormones, these symptoms can give you an idea if you should make a call to us to inquire about menopause treatment:

Hot Flashes and Night Sweats

You could suffer from hot flashes or their PM equivalent, night sweats, when you need menopause treatment. These sudden temperature increases can last from a few seconds to a few minutes.

Irregular Periods

Hormones help to regulate your menstrual cycle. Therefore, as they decrease, they may cause your cycle to become erratic, possibly leading to missed periods. Menstrual flow may increase or decrease.

Mood Changes

Between how your hormones affect neurotransmitters that control mood, the unpleasant symptoms you may be dealing with, and sleep disruptions, you might feel more moody than usual. Depression and anxiety are both possible.

Sleep Problems

From hormonal changes that can affect circadian rhythm to the frustrating symptoms to possible depression and anxiety, you might have trouble falling or staying asleep.

Vaginal Dryness

Estrogen affects the moisture content of your vaginal region. A decreased amount can lead to less lubrication, which can make sexual relations uncomfortable. Your vaginal tissue could also thin, contributing to dryness and discomfort during sex.

Decreased Libido

While the changes to your vaginal tissue and lubrication may make you less likely to want sex, your libido in general may decrease from hormonal changes.

Memory and Concentration Problems

Anxiety, depression, sleep disturbances, and how the hormone change affects the brain can have you feeling like you’re in a mental fog. For that reason, you might experience problems with memory and concentration.

Weight Gain

Your metabolism may change before or during menopause. If you suffer from depression, it could cause you to eat more than usual.

Urinary Incontinence

You may experience frequent and sudden urges to urinate, sometimes leading to you having accidents.

First and foremost, no one can determine how you’ll respond to menopause treatment. The results vary, with some individuals responding more effectively than others. The dosage and route of administration also impact how they feel.

For the people who do react to menopause treatment, they may feel more like themselves. Their moods may become more stable.

Sleeping might become easier, and hot flashes and night sweats might become less intense or frequent. Mental acuity may sharpen, closer to what it was before.

FAQs

No “best” treatment for menopause exists. It’s all about finding the right solution that fits into your lifestyle and effectively manages your levels. At Hydrology, we’ll have you find the one that will help you the most.

Menopause is over once you have gone 12 consecutive months without a period. At this point, as long as you aren’t experiencing any symptoms, we can stop your treatment, which typically involves tapering it.

The worst stage of menopause varies from person to person. Some people experience the worst effects during perimenopause, while symptoms could become more intense when menopause truly hits.

A decreased level of estrogen or progesterone can lead to aging occurring more rapidly, as the skin thins and wrinkles appear, hair thins, or weight increases. Slowing the aging process somewhat with hormone replacement therapy.

You might feel more tired than usual, even when you get the recommended amount of sleep. Hot flashes or night sweats may happen once your levels decrease. You could even feel mentally off, depressed, anxious, or moody.
